What to Pack for a Hartley Bay Cottages Stay

Our cottages come fully equipped for comfortable waterfront living — bed linens, towels, a full kitchen, hot tub, and kayaks are all provided. A little planning still goes a long way, so here's what to bring.
Pack in layers. Days on Badger Lake can be warm and sunny, but evenings cool off quickly, especially in spring and fall. A swimsuit, quick-dry clothes, a warm layer for the evening, and a rain jacket will cover you for almost anything. Worth knowing: the Birch cottage has air conditioning, while the Aspen and Cedar rely on portable and ceiling fans, so if you're staying in one of those two during a hot stretch, lighter clothing and an extra fan-friendly outfit for sleeping are worth packing.
Bug protection matters, especially in the summer months — bring a good insect repellent, and consider packing a lightweight long-sleeve layer for dusk, when bugs are most active near the water. Sunscreen is just as essential; the sun reflects hard off the lake.
Bring your own groceries and staples — the cottages have full kitchens, but the nearest full grocery store is a drive away, so stock up before you arrive rather than planning a mid-trip run. Our water is potable, but many guests still like to bring a few bottles of drinking water for the drive in.
Pack swimwear and beach towels for the lake, and if you're planning to fish, bring your own rods and tackle along with a valid Ontario fishing licence. Kayaks are provided, so no need to bring your own.
A few small extras make a real difference: a flashlight for after dark, a basic first aid kit, and a good book or deck of cards for quiet evenings on the porch.
